Security CCTV cameras are to be installed in a shopping parade in Watford, it has been revealed.

The cameras will be erected in an attempt to deter criminal activity and anti-social behaviour in the area, according to the Watford Observer.

Goodwood Parade has been subjected to a number of undesirable incidents in recent times, including violence and vandalism.

It is hoped that the presence of video cameras will dissuade the perpetrators from acting in such a way again.

Councillor Mark Watkin, of Hertfordshire County Council, which has made a donation towards the installation, said that such projects had proved successful in the past.

He told the news provider: "There are occasions where it is necessary to install CCTV equipment to deter anti-social behaviour and, in turn, to improve the quality of life for local residents and shoppers.

"We know that CCTV is effective in reducing this kind of problem in local trouble spots so it is money well spent."
