Security CCTV cameras contributed to the jailing of a drugs gang in Liverpool for a total of 57 years.

A total of 16 members were jailed after camera footage recorded the completion of a deal and the subsequent attempt to discard the drugs when police moved in, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The surveillance tapes also helped capture two of the main players several days after the incident, with the men having originally evaded police capture.

Detective Inspector Sarah Pengelly told the news provider that the arrests would be something of a reality check for the criminals who had chosen a life of crime for the easy money that it offered.

She said: "We studied a level of community intelligence to target the brothers who were 'career criminals' and had knowledge of how enforcement teams work.

"It was clear some of the gang had a very good lifestyle and were very cash rich. These men were attracted by the perceived wealth of dealing in illegal drugs - when now the reality of their actions is a prison sentence."
