Roadside security CCTV cameras are contributing to a fall in the number of cars speeding in Estonia.

Data from cameras placed along one of the country's most hazardous stretches reveals that fewer cars are exceeding the speed limit.

The section of road, which is on the Tallinn-Tartu highway, is renowned for hosting traffic that struggles to keep under the legal limit.

In 2008, 37 per cent of all traffic that travelled on this particular stretch of road was found to be over the speed limit.

Following the installation of the CCTV camera in 2009, this number fell significantly to 28 per cent.

It has since dropped even further and now stands at 19.8 per cent.

While the number of individuals exceeding the limit has fallen, so too has the average speed, according to the Road Administration.

Estonia is located on the Baltic Sea and border Russia and Latvia.
