Marks and Spencer changes till and queue management system after Carlisle woman campaign

queue management

Bosses at a city centre M&S store in Carlisle have changed the way their queues are organised after customers criticised their new self-service till system. Former city councillor Elsie Martlew said she was delighted that managers at Marks & Spencer had listened to customers and said she opposed the new automated tills on principle because they could cost jobs. She said many had become annoyed by the long queues which had built up since the tills were introduced – the result of having one queue for both sets of tills.

The former councillor was so annoyed that last month she wrote to Marks & Spencer boss Marc Bolland. Now the high street chain has changed the system so there are separate queues for each type of till.

A spokesman for M&S said: “We have made some changes to the till and queue management system this week. It’s working very well. We will continue to review it to make sure we provide the best possible service for our customers.”
