Island discusses security CCTV after theft

The Scottish island of Eday could soon install security CCTV cameras following the theft of a watch.

The timepiece was on display in a centre on the island, which is home to just 150 people, when it was stolen, according to the Scotsman.

It had been loaned by a coastguard who had been awarded it in 1967 for his part in the rescue of two boys whose boat had run aground.

Clive Brookes, chairman of the Eday Partnership and a member of the heritage centre committee, said that crime had not been an issue before and that CCTV could soon be erected as a result of the incident.

He told the news provider: "Up until now, the centre has opened in the morning and closed in the evening and people are free to go in and enjoy what's there.

"Do we now need CCTV cameras? Should we only have the centre open if there is a custodian there?"
