HDcctv allowing firms to upgrade analogue CCTV infrastructure

HDcctv could provide businesses and organisations with a cheaper way to switch to HD CCTV security surveillance systems, it has been claimed.

According to IMS Research, the standard is a cheaper alternative than implementing network-enabled HD cameras that many firms are adopting as a temporary stop gap.

Most CCTV security recorders currently in use are analogue, and HDcctv allows businesses to reuse the existing analogue infrastructure they have in place to create a hybrid video surveillance system.

The technology works by bringing an analogue video feed onto a digital data network using an Ethernet-enabled DVR security CCTV system.

However, Gary Wong, research analyst at IMS, said that HDcctv is unlikely to sway those companies already planning to make the jump to a "pure" network solution.

"HDcctv cameras will not impact the uptake of IP cameras in the short term," he said.

"Many large and well-known vendors of video surveillance equipment have already invested heavily in developing and marketing network security cameras."

IMS Research estimates that shipments of HD and megapixel network security cameras will outnumber those of HDcctv cameras by six to one in 2014.
