Confidence and a clear vision is the key to being a successful entrepreneur according to Soledad Recatala. As President and Chief Executive Officer of IXTROM Group, a company that develops real time emergency management software, Recatala is one of 14 Sherbrooke business owners whose stories of innovation and success are fuelling a joint campaign to inspire aspiring entrepreneurs to set up shop in the city. Recatala said: “It’s like climbing Mount Everest; at the bottom it’s not so bad but the higher you go the harder it is. There are going to be obstacles in your way and you have to have confidence in yourself.”

Whilst working in England Recatala was sought out to work for a high tech company in Sherbrooke, Quebec but soon decided to venture out on her own into emergency management systems. After buying the intellectual rights to a software technology in 2009 she launched IXTROM (Information Exchange Technology for Risk Operational Management).

IXTROM emergency management software is now distributed to 46 countries across the world. The company is looking to open a branch in the United States and is actively recruiting more programmers and administrators. In the Canadian market its clients include 18 federal agencies and 45 provincial agencies.
