There are many applications where copper cables or fibre networks are not the ideal solutions for transferring video images from remote cameras to the video recording and management system. Whether the application requires a permanent or temporary solution, there are now many excellent technologies available to fulfil a wireless security system.
A wireless security system may have to address specific application environments, and so a study of the different technologies and their advantages and limitations need to be reviewed. There are various CCTV cameras available that include a wireless capability, which may be a straightforward and inexpensive solution. Otherwise, if you prefer conventional CCTV cameras, you should consider one of the following alternative solutions. Depending on whether your wireless security system is indoor or outdoor, the range of solutions available includes: Fixed Wireless Access, WiFi, Mesh, and microwave solutions.
There is a wide range of excellent megapixel cameras that have been tested and supported by the Wavestore software. If your wireless security system requires the deployment of megapixel cameras, there are now on the market a wide range of wireless solutions that support bandwidths up to 80Mbps, which is sufficient to support multiple popular cameras and sufficient for several of the higher "size" megapixel cameras.
The benefit of adopting 3G for your wireless security system is that it can be set up instantaneously, making it an ideal solution for temporary camera installations. The power source required for these systems can be addressed using solar panel and a local battery storage system. To keep power transmission to a minimum, these wireless security system solutions can have a compact Wavestore recorder built into the camera housing, which provides real-time recording, whilst video images are transmitted at a lower frame rate or "on alarm".
Broadband Wireless Access, commonly known as WiMAX, is a fast evolving technology that is used to form wide range wireless networks with dramatically high data rates. WiMAX is available for fixed or mobile applications and is suitable for an extensive range of applications, enabling them to make use of what is effectively a solid wireless backbone to connect cameras to recorders, or create server groups enable remote Wavestore servers to be integrated into a single system with high integrity and high security. Current WiMAX systems provide up to 40 Mbits/s, however a revised standard is planned and is expected to offer up to 1 Gbit/s fixed speeds.
Wavestore has a network of expert wireless security system partners who are available to apply this expertise to specific customer applications. Contact us to discuss the solution that best suits your specific requirements.
