WaveSDK is the new Wavestore Software Development Kit due for release in Q1 2011. WaveSDK allows third parties to develop their own applications which integrate with Wavestore video and audio recording systems.
Whilst Wavestore already provides an SDK, it is currently ActiveX only, meaning that it is only suitable for writing applications for the Microsoft Windows operating system. To date, the vast majority of companies in the CCTV industry have taken this platform-restricted approach. However WaveSDK is written in C++ and based upon the Qt software development toolkit from Nokia. This means that it is possible to write cross-platform applications for Windows and Linux.
In a later release platform support will be extended to Mac OS X and some mobile platforms such as Symbian and MeeGo. WaveSDK will also provide "bindings" for other programming environments, including ActiveX and Python with possible later support for Java.
WaveSDK consists of a number of modules which provide several areas of functionality. Application developers are free to use just the modules which are relevant to their needs in order to keep application size to a minimum.
The WavesSDK main modules are: Connectivity, Configuration, Widgets / Controls, Codecs and Customisation.

The WaveSDK video display area breaks the CCTV tradition of having fixed layouts such as 2x2, 3x3 and 4x4. Instead, completely free-form layouts are supported. This means that new IP and Megapixel cameras with non-standard aspects ratios can be integrated into a video display layout without wasting space.
