The floods in the country are impacting on the production of hard drives. The majority of hard disk drives are made in Thailand. The country has been hit by significant flooding since August and accounts for roughly 25 percent of all global hard drive facilities. http://www.wavestore.com/security-cctv-news/price-of-dvr-recorders-set-to-rise/ Mon, 21 Nov 2011 12:00:00 +0000 13:04:00 Videcon believe CCTV iPhone apps are here to stay Videcon are proud to announce that the iPhone app for its VXH264 dvr recorders has exceeded 2,500 downloads. The company say they are confident that smartphone applications will have an important role to play in the future of CCTV. The VXH264 DVR was launched in January 2011. The iPhone and iPad apps followed in May to allow dvr recorders footage to be viewed remotely. http://www.wavestore.com/security-cctv-news/videcon-believe-cctv-iphone-apps-are-here-to-stay/ Wed, 14 Sep 2011 12:00:00 +0100 15:34:00 DVR recorders 'will be extinct' in 15 years Growth in on-board and cloud-based storage is likely to render DVR recorders redundant in the future, it has been predicted. In an article for Info4Security, Marin Gren, co-founder of CCTV camera manufacturer Axis Communications, said major innovations have been made in the storage market in the last 15 years. He claimed it will not be long before CCTV cameras are available with built-in storage capacities that can record HDTV resolution "for weeks at a time". "This will be a game changer as the camera becomes the recording device, something that can't be done using analogue," he remarked. "DVRs as we know them will likely go the way of tube-based cameras and will be extinct 15 years from now." Mr Gren also predicted strong growth in cloud-based storage, which will enable video footage to be viewed from anywhere on internet-enabled devices, including mobile phones. "If we can trust the cloud with our money today, it's logical that we would do the same for security video tomorrow," he stated. Video surveillance systems are used by coalition forces to monitor detainees in the Oruzgan province, but reports have emerged of problems with equipment. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Angus Houston, chief of the ADF, told Australia's defence minister Stephen Smith that CCTV cameras had not been recording continuously, and that failures in the recording system were to blame. In response, Mr Smith said: "The ADF is addressing this serious CCTV issue and has begun to put in place procedures to resolve the matter, including immediate action to ensure continuous footage is being recorded and archived." The ADF has been responsible for the managing and processing of insurgents captured by coalition forces in Oruzgan since the withdrawal of Dutch troops in August. Air Chief Marshal Houston is due to file a report on the surveillance camera issues shortly. According to the Bucks Free Press, the £252,000 facility was set up to replace the authority's old analogue system. It will be used to monitor live footage from 228 CCTV cameras across the area using brand new digital video recording equipment and flat screen monitors. As well as cutting maintenance costs for the council by around 40 per cent, the new control room will also consume 15 per cent less energy. Councillor Richard Scott, cabinet member with responsibility for CCTV, described the system as "impressive". "The modernisation of the control room means that we are now able to provide a higher quality community service, at a reduced cost to the taxpayer," he remarked. The opening of the facility comes as several councils across the country are having to review their CCTV and video surveillance budgets in response to government cuts. The new system will see existing CCTV cameras replaced with newer models, which will be connected to DVR recorders so that footage can be recorded and reviewed. According to Computer World, the networked DVR software will allow the cameras to provide coverage across various hospital sites in the state of Western Australia that are run by the Country Health Service. "The proposed recording system will need to accept a minimum of 16 IP-based cameras per DVR unit and shall be expandable if required," a tender document stated. "Cameras in low-light areas shall be capable of providing distinguishable images on monitors and recordings." The document also stated the need for the DVR software used to be readily scalable and fully licensed. Last month, calls were made for new security surveillance systems to be installed at ports in southern Victoria, Australia. IFSEC is a global network of security shows, where companies can source anything from security DVR systems to queue management video analytics. The exhibition show, which already has an annual event in New Delhi, is expanding to the south of the country this summer. From June 1st to the 3rd, IFSEC South India will be at the Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre in Karnataka. The first IFSEC India event was launched in 2007. On top of the two India-based events, IFSEC holds security shows around the world, including South Africa, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom. The forthcoming UK event will be held in Birmingham's NEC Arena between May 16th and 19th. As well as exhibition stands, the show will consist of seminars and conferences from leading people in the security industry. Bosch Security Systems has added the camera - capable of being used in security DVR systems - to its IP Camera 200 series. Called the IP Dome 225 IR, the camera has a built-in active infrared illuminator, which switches on automatically when the light levels are low enough. The new device has built-in motion detection capabilities that can be programmed to increase recording quality if set off. The IP Camera 200 series can be installed as stand-alone devices; however, customers can extend the storage capabilities of the fully scalable camera by connecting it to a DVR recorder. A DVR recorder coupled with the new Bosch camera could be added to a system with the aim of protecting premises such as retail environments or offices from criminal damage, vandalism or theft. The Royal Bafokeng Stadium, near Rustenburg in South Africa, held some of the biggest games at last year's FIFA World Cup held in the country. Before the tournament, the arena underwent a multi-million dollar security upgrade with included installing video analytics software which would automatically switch the stream of events to highest possible resolution if a motion detector was sensored. Alongside the network digital video recorder system, a biometric access control solution was installed in the stadium. The footage from the system is sent to an on-site control room, where it can be recorded. The stadium's system can be powered directly from the network with a power-over-ethernet system. During the worldwide football tournament, the Royal Bafokeng Stadium - which also holds rugby and athletics events - played host to England's opening match, against the United States of America. The local government in Berkeley County has decided to install the system across municipal-owned properties. More than 25 hemispheric 360-degree cameras are being installed as part of the wireless security camera system. Gary Wine, who is director of information technology in Berkeley County, said the installation of the network system has been "effortless" and that efficiency savings have been made. "The number of devices needed on-site has dropped significantly from previous levels," he said. "[This is] a testament to the precision and accuracy of image detail, the wide-angle images produced and the expansive high-resolution storage capabilities." A video security system that incorporates 360-degree dome cameras is cost-efficient because fewer cameras are needed Berkeley County Council is the local administrative body for the West Virginia area; it is made up of five elected members and three professional staff.
